The Other Kauai Tourist AttractionKauai has a population of around 60 thousand permanent residents and an average of one million tourists /visitors per year (about 30 thousand visitors on Island everyday), which means on any given day one in three people on Kauai are visitors. So the visitors come for the beaches, right? Well most do, but outdoor
enthusiasts from all over the world come to hike some of the most
spectacular terrain on earth. From beginners to professionals, there are
trails for everyone who wants to enjoy the adventure of hiking in
Paradise. The 11 mile Kalalau Valley Trail is probably the most famous of
the many hiking trails located on the Island. The Kalalau Trail head is
located at the “end of the road” at Ke’e Beach and follows the Na Pali
coast line west along the North Shore, this hike can be as short as 30
minutes to unreal views of Na Pali or 5 days (round trip in and out) to
have the whole Kalalau experience which includes secluded beaches and
isolated waterfalls (moderate to difficult depending on how far you want
to go). Another popular “easy to get to” and more moderate hike includes
the “Sleeping Giant” (NouNou Trail) which is about 3.5 miles round trip
and features incredible vistas of the East Shore from the chest of the
“Giant”. Kokee, located at the top of Waimea Canyon (the grand canyon of
the pacific), has numerous trails for all ages and skill sets, a great
place to take a family hiking adventure, enjoy! |
